ATEC-Greco Jobs with Companhia Siderurgica National

Companhia Siderurgica National (CSN) ordered installation of a new 2500 tpd clinker kiln line from the Chinese EPC contractor CDI / Sinoma on site in Arcos, Minas Gerais (forno 1, unidade Arcos). All major plant parts were manufactured and delivered by CDI. Installation of the plant finished beginning of 2011 and commissioning of the plant took place from march to may 2011.

Plant investigation and capacity study:

In a first step CSN ordered the preparation of a study from ATEC-Greco to evaluate the potential for a capacity increase of kiln line 1.

ATEC-Greco sent 4 engineers on site at Arcos between 15th and 19th Jan 2011 to investigate the plant and gather the necessary data for the study. ATEC-Greco then made a complete plant investigation study covering the following scope:

  • evaluation of the installed plant
  • bottleneck analysis of the important plant sections
  • check for the maximum increase of capacity possible with the installed equipment
  • evaluation of optimization potential considering possible small equipment changes.

Assistance for plant commissioning:

In a second step ATEC-Greco was asked by Companhia Siderurgica Nacional to assist in the commissioning works of the new clinker line on site in Arcos.

Four (in the final phase two) ATEC engineers were on site to assist and observe the commissioning works from Monday 08.03.11 to Friday 01.07.11.

During the commissioning assistance period the ATEC-Greco personnel on site was involved in the following works and activities:

  • Plant inspections
  • Equipment checks
  • Observation / Monitoring of work procedures (i.e. refractory drying, start up)
  • Operation assistance: Plant operation (i.e. start up), Equipment  operation (i.e. clinker cooler, raw mill...)
  • Process analysis: Measurements of operation parameters,     Calibration/optimization of process control, Pyroprocess benchmarking / balancing

The plant reached nominal production of 2500 tpd clinker in the beginning of june 2011.
